Run Moorhold on Hetzner Cloud

Hetzner Cloud is the cheapest option when its 32 GB machine is in stock. It is owned and run in the EU, with data centres in Germany and Finland.

Check this is available first

The machine to choose is the CX53 (16 vCPU, 32 GB, €29.49 a month). On 5 October 2026 it was unavailable in all three EU locations. Before you start, open Add server in the Hetzner Cloud Console and check the CX53 can be chosen in at least one location.

If it cannot, choose one of these instead, or use IONOS Cloud:

  • CCX33 (32 GB, €138.49 a month), which was available in all three locations;
  • CPX62 (32 GB, €129.99 a month), in Falkenstein and Nuremberg.

This describes how installing Moorhold yourself will work. Three pieces are still being built: the installer, the access keys and the first-run steps in the portal. Until they are ready, we install Moorhold for you: see Have us install it.

Next steps

  1. Get an access key.
  2. Follow the guide: IONOS or Hetzner in about 20 minutes.

The console asks for an SSH key but lets you go on without one. You do not need one: the server installs itself.

If you get stuck, email hello@moorhold.dev and say which step you reached. Please do not send passwords, keys or other secrets.
